Stay tuned for more detail!
1/ Microsoft unveils custom chips. 🤖
Microsoft has unveiled two custom-designed chips and integrated systems: the Microsoft Azure Maia AI Accelerator, optimized for artificial intelligence (AI) tasks and generative AI, and the Microsoft Azure Cobalt CPU, an Arm-based processor tailored to run general purpose compute workloads on the Microsoft Cloud. These chips represent a significant step forward for Microsoft's cloud infrastructure, allowing the company to optimize its systems for performance, efficiency, and sustainability. The chips will initially be used to power Microsoft's internal AI workloads, and will be made available to customers in early 2024.
2/ Meta's AI models: Emu Video and Emu Edit. 🎨
Meta has unveiled two new AI tools, Emu Video and Emu Edit, that allow users to create videos and edit images from text prompts. Emu Video is a tool that lets users create videos from pure text prompts, while Emu Edit introduces a different approach to image editing known as inpainting. Emu Video adopts a two-step process for creating videos from text prompts. It first generates an image based on the inputted text, then produces a video derived from both the text and the generated image. This approach simplifies the video generation process, avoiding the more complex, multi-model methods used to power Meta’s previous Make-A-Video tool. Emu Edit allows users to edit images with high levels of precision and flexibility.
3/ Microsoft brings AI Copilot to Windows 10. 💻
Microsoft is bringing its AI-powered Copilot to Windows 10. The software giant will soon release Copilot for Windows 10 to Release Preview testers, just months after signaling an end of major Windows 10 updates. Copilot in Windows 10 will work very similar to how it appears in Windows 11, with a button on the right-hand side of the taskbar that lets you quickly access the chatbot. Microsoft is only testing with Windows 10 Home and Pro users and intends to share plans for Copilot on commercial versions of Windows 10 soon.
What does this all mean for the future of Windows 10 and that key end-of-support date? Surely Microsoft has to extend it? “This is the last version of Windows 10, so that’s 22H2, we’re not changing any of that with Windows 10,” insists Woodman. “We’re not making any changes to the end of support for Windows 10, which remains on October 14th, 2025.”
4/ Google unveils AI music model Lyria. 🎶
Google DeepMind has unveiled a new music AI system called Lyria. The company says the model can generate high-quality vocals, lyrics, and musical backing tracks that mimic the style of popular artists. DeepMind announced Lyria alongside new music creation experiments launching on YouTube Shorts, one of which will let creators generate 30-second songs sung in the voices of popular artists.
Lyria could be a game-changer for the music industry, arming musicians with advanced tools for creation and experimentation and fostering a more immersive relationship between artists and fans.
Conclusion:
These developments: Microsoft's unveiling of custom chips, Meta's new AI tools for video and image editing, Microsoft's AI Copilot coming to Windows 10, and Google's groundbreaking AI music model Lyria. - Showcase the growing influence of AI in shaping the future of technology and its impact on various aspects of our lives.
