1. X tests free AI chatbot Grok

Social network X is testing free access to its AI chatbot, Grok, initially available only to premium users. Grok, developed by Elon Musk’s xAI, could soon be open to free users in some regions, starting with New Zealand. Currently, usage is limited: free users can make 10 queries every two hours with the standard Grok-2 model, 20 with Grok-2 mini, and three daily image analysis queries. This move aims to broaden Grok’s user base and improve feedback collection, positioning it to better compete with popular AI models like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini.

2. OpenAI shifts strategy amid slower AI advancements

OpenAI's next model, Orion, is expected to improve on its predecessors but may not represent as significant a leap as past upgrades like GPT-3 to GPT-4, according to early testers. Due to limited new training data, OpenAI is exploring innovative strategies, including the use of synthetic data generated by other AI models and refining post-training processes. These approaches aim to keep advancing Orion despite a slower rate of improvement in some areas, such as coding. OpenAI has yet to confirm a release date, but they have dismissed speculation about a 2023 launch.
